There are Festivals, or Tshechus, which are held throughout the year. These festivals
are a combination of both the spiritual and the social. They take place outdoors, in the
courtyards of the great Dzongs. The festivals celebrate the faith, legends, myths and
history of the Bhutanese in ancient rituals of dance and music. Participating in a
festival is one of the best ways to appreciate the flavor and spirit of the Bhutanese
character. The most popular Festival Tours include the Paro Festival, Punakha Festival,
Bumthang, Mongar and Trashigang Festivals. There are also in-depth cultural tours to
central and eastern Bhutan.
Trekking is Bhutan is truly unique. You can experience true high mountain wilderness
where trails are unspoiled and shared with few other people. The scenery is magnificent -
almost untouched by human settlement. The variety of treks is boundless. Some quest into
the highest, most inaccessible parts of Bhutan near the Tibet border; some travel to
seldom visited villages such as Laya and Lunana which are inhabited by nomadic people with
unique dress and customs; some wind through the lonely ridges and lovely ridges above the
valleys. Bhutans natural wonders are innumerable; tranquil alpine meadows carpeted
with wildflowers, forests endowed with tree high rhododendrons, glacial rivers, birds,
butterflies, orchids, exquisite waterfalls and the tremendous peaks of the Himalaya.
Bhutan is the land of the blue sheep, the snow leopard and blue poppy - all rare and
associated with the Himalaya. Far from any roads, these gems can only
be experienced by those willing to walk up to them. Other trekking itineraries are The
Snow Leopard Trek, The Snowman/ Lunana Trek, Rodang La Trek and the Duer Hot Spring Treks,
which are challenging to difficult. Moderate treks available are the Dagala Thousand Lakes
Trek, Druk Path Trek, Bumthang Cultural Trek and Duer Hot Spring Trek.
